Dining and Bonding with Grandparents

At the community congregate meal program, I see the elderly are having fun preparing and sharing the meals together. Then I think of my own grandfather who got ill last winter. I feel a close bond to my grandparents but our relation is not intimate. How should I bring myself to them?
