My Daughter-In-Law's Just like Me

68-year-old Xu A-zhao is an industrious and business-savvy woman who has worked her way up from a street hawker to the owner of a thriving flower shop in Tianmu's Shidong Market.

Seven years ago, she became the chairperson of Shidong Market Council and began to painstakingly transform the market from old and filthy to modern and pristine, a feat that now attracts locals and tourists alike to marvel at this unique 5-star traditional market in Taiwan.

In this episode, we discover the good, the bad, and the ugly of living in a traditional three-generation family household; how A-zhao is fighting to change the stereotypical mother-in-law/daughter-in-law dynamic; and why despite A-zhao and her husband Ri-hong's age, they still insist on going for a weekly saunter hand in hand for dinner and coffee.

Yang Ya-ping:Because I have long working hours, living with my parents-in-law means they can look after the kids for me. Cause sometimes I don't get home until 10 or 11pm. Once I went 2 days in succession without setting eyes on Xin-min. She said "Mom, I really miss you." But work gives me a great sense of achievement. Sam Tseng:Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relations can be very positive but it requires some heart to heart communication. So I think that it's important to speak your mind. Find the art of speaking and don't bottle things up. That applies to both the elder and younger generation.
