How to approach Sign Language and current status.
R&D on Universal Services at STRL

One of important roles for public broadcaster is providing useful information to not only ordinary people but also hard of hearing people including elderly people, visually impaired people and hard of understanding people like foreigner who is not familiar with Japanese. NHK STRL(Science and Technology Research Laboratories)has been conducting R&D on these topics for a long time.

In this presentation, Masa will introduce the latest status of the related research activities widely and shallowly, and then talk deeply about CG-based sign language animation for the deaf people. You will learn a piece of the sign language which is not understood correctly by many people, and how STRL has been approaching it. It would be very nice if this talk triggers you to get new ideas and more interest for universal services in a broad sense.
